Good thinking. 15 Jan 2021
Alien or foreign. Not in relation to biblical translation; this time I’m thinking about the War of the World’s. The H.G.Wells Aliens drove Tripods. There was nothing the ingenuity of man could do to stop them consuming us.
People did not prepare, or even know about Aliens. Disaster can come from anywhere.
I rode my bike for years and for miles, up to 160 on one day. It takes considerable time to build up to this. I’ve also ridden even more dangerous motorbikes for years, having been a bike instructor and passed an advanced driving test for cars and bikes. Never would I have predicted that a pedal bike would be the end of me. It very nearly was.
Some things we can’t see coming and accurate risk assessment can be displaced by self-belief. In the end of the story, it was the Aliens turn to be surprisingly brought down. Not by the might of our sizable military, but by the miniscule life forms already on Earth. The Alien needed a vaccination equivalence. Perhaps they could have been saved from this new virus by those known to use their Tripods very differently.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
I have had to learn that, in reality, even when we feel secure we are fragile and we don’t even know how many new heartbeats or breaths we have left. We are completely dependant on God, the creator of everything. When we think ourselves successful we can become over reliant on the fragile and lose sight of the secure.
“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.” (Isiah 26:3-4)
