What’s Important?

Broadband upgrade and Engagement (June 23)

<MORE OR LESS>

My broadband contract expired. Rather than renew the same deal, the supplier offered £4 LESS per month, to get 4 times MORE speed. No brainer? Am I missing something?

My first dial up modem gave 0.0288 Megabits per second in 1994. I’m now on 1Gigabit 1000Mbps. That’s MORE than 34,000 times faster. Am I now 34 thousand times happier? Not yet!

What matters most can’t be bought with money.

MORE time with screens and speakers =
LESS time with real people in the natural world.

More people per second =
LESS time for 1-1 relationship. Sometimes LESS is MORE.

The three wise monkeys. One could see no evil. The second could hear no evil. The third could speak no evil. A fourth unwise monkey relied on a smart phone, so couldn’t engage independently at all.

I must look at real people beyond my smartphone.

How should I connect with the cloud that matters? Prayer? Do I Listen as well as talk? Download as well as upload. https://djchannon.me.uk/faithfully-connected/

Good News (Greek: euangelion) is about salvation and liberation for restored relationship.

Relationship is more than a few words at the front of a church. Even if you do get a certificate. It’s life changing.

Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually.
(1 Chronicles 16:11 NASB)

Do I Make enough time to seek God?

I must pause to calmly re-centre my hurried interactions for MORE connection with depth, meaning and love.

Technical Postscript

Internet need for speed. Keep on keeping up.

UK Average download speed Mbps from 2017-2022:
36, 37, 42.1, 50, 50.4, 86.5

The main reason for slow speed is the last mile of connection.
Dial up -> ISDN -> ADSL -> FTTC -> FTTP

Internal network systems, cabling, and Wi-Fi issues significantly influence speed too. The internet service provider may not be at fault.

Love is in the Air!
(Ruby and Tom Engaged)

I’ve been blessed with a few decades of marriage. So far. I’ve been loved and cared for in sickness and in health. The bank systems and GDPR don’t relate to, “all that I am I give to you, and all that I have I share with you.” I think it’s worked for us. I have received more than my fair share in the declarations and vows exchange.

Some things are easier said than done.

…A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12 NIV UK) With both following the leadership of Christ, we have travelled in the same direction with the most powerful loving support there is.

Many know my checksum of theological thinking is the two greatest commandments. The second, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)

Life events make me think. I often overthink, but…

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.” (Proverbs 31:10-11 NIVUK) A Ruby with value beyond worldly wealth is priceless.

He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. ‘Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.’” (1 Thessalonians 5:10-11 NIVUK)

Relationships are tough at times. “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8 NIVUK)

It may be hard to believe and even harder to achieve but… “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.” (Ecclesiastes 7:8-9 NIVUK)

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.” (2 Peter 1:5-7 NIVUK)

Ruby and Tom

May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.” (1 Thessalonians 3:12 NIVUK)

Please forgive the shotgun scripture.
